DAY 01

Arrival in Havana

  • Arrival to Havana International Airport, José Martí.
  • Welcome briefing with your guide and review of itinerary, along with a wel­come drink.
  • Dinner at local restaurant

DAY 02

Havana

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Begin your touring of Havana: drive past the Capitol (designed after our nation’s Capitol-and a few feet taller), Central Park, La Inglaterra Hotel, and Parque Central Ho­tel to the Malacon. Walk down the cobbled stone streets of Old Havana to the Old Square, Raquel Hotel with rooms named after persons in the Bible, to San Fran­cisco Square and Armas Square, Ceramic Museum (visit), the grand Palacio de los Capitanes Generales, and Map Museum of Havana (visit) past many buildings under renovation. Visit the Automobile Museum. See the Ambos Mundos Hotel where re­nowned American writer Ernest Heming­way once lived. Visit the Cathedral Square dominated by the elegant Italian baroque façade of the Cathedral of Havana.
  • Visit to Havana Club Rum Museum
  • Visit the Taller Experimental de la Grafica Gallery where student artist sell their work at reasonable prices and the Wifredo Lam Art Gallery.
  • Lunch at local restaurant.
  • This afternoon, time to visit the indoor tourist craft market in Old Havana. The bus will then take you back to the Belles Arts Museum where you will see the Cuban art exhibits. Pass the Revolution Museum. Return to the hotel.
  • Dinner on own.


DAY 03

Havana

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Meet with a Cuban Jewish Historian who will give an introduction to the history of the Jews of Cuba, and a view of Cuban life through the stories of the Jewish people and the graves you will visit. The Historian will accompany you for your visit to one Jewish Cemetery in Guanabacoa and Holocaust Memorial. Visit the Santeria Museum (African Cuban) in Guanabacoa.
  • Then drive to Cojimar, famous from Hemingway’s book “The Old Man and the Sea.” See the bust of Hemingway built from donated brass fittings from the fishing boat and hear about Hemingway and Cuba.
  • Lunch at local restaurant.
  • Visit Hemingway’s renovated Home/ Museum, La Finca Vigia, seeing through the windows his library, living room, bedrooms and bathroom where he recorded his weight. See his boat, car and animal cemetery.
  • Dinner at local restaurant, followed by the wonderful Tropicana Night Club Show.
  • Return to the hotel.

DAY 04

Havana

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Enjoy a morning drive visiting Revolution Square, the Rosenberg Memorial, Christopher Columbus Cemetery, and John Lennon Park.
  • See the old Sephardic Torahs. Visit with the senior citizens, The Salomon Mitreani Center, and assist them with their craft projects. Please bring fabric, thread, and yarn, as these projects help the seniors with their activities of daily living.
  • Lunch at local restaurant.
  • In the afternoon, visit the home/studio of Jose Fuster – Jose Fuster is a Cuban artist, painter, and sculpture whose project is to redecorate his house and his neighbor’s houses, one of Cuba’s original ceramists. Time allowing, visit another studio.
  • Drive through the Miramar section of Havana.
  • Dinner on own.


DAY 05

Havana – Viñales – Havana

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Participants will engage in educational exchanges with torcedores at Partagas Cigar Factory.
  • Drive to the Casa de la Comunidad Hebrea de Cuba, (Beth Shalom Synagogue), and El Patronado, (Conservative Jewish Community), where you will meet important members of the Jewish community who will relate stories to you about the synagogue, Castro, and Jewish Community.
  • Also visit with the Director of the El Patronado Jewish Free Pharmacy, who will talk about the distribution of the medicines to Jewish communities and will show you the Pharmacy. Leave off donations for the Jewish Pharmacy. On Sundays, the children attend at the Esquela Tikun Olam Jewish School located in El Patronado (Community Center).
  • Lunch at local restaurant.
  • This afternoon, visit Artist’s Studios.
  • If time permits, you can visit the Revolution History Museum after the visits at the Artist’s studios

DAY 06

Havana Departure

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Departure transfer will be provided from hotel to Havana.
