DAY 01

Arrival in Havana

  • Flight Miami to Havana, Cuba.
  • Arrival to Havana International Airport, José Martí. Transfer with English speaking guide to the hotel.
  • Lunch at leisure.
  • A welcome meeting while enjoying a traditional Cuban dinner and music.

DAY 02

Havana

  • American Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Start the morning with an educational exchange with members of the Cuban Federation of Amateur Baseball at the Latin American Baseball Stadium.
  • Engage with historians who specialize in Cuban colonial architecture in the Office of the Historian of Old Havana to discuss the redevelopment of Old Havana which aims to restore the buildings while keeping in mind the people who live in the area and any similar projects in the U.S.
  • Travel to the seaside village of Cojimar to meet with locals and have a guided tour of Hemingway’s country estate, “Finca La Vigia” Museum.
  • Lunch at local restaurant.
  • Return to Havana.

DAY 03

Havana

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • A guided walk in the morning through historic Havana Vieja (Old Havana), a UNESCO World Heritage site, featuring highlights, such as, Plaza de la Catedral, Plaza Armas, Plaza Vieja, and Catedral de San Cristobal, Palacio de los Capitanes Generales, Calle Obispo, Calle Mercaderes, and Museo de Arte Colonial.
  • Visit to the Museo de Musica, a museum that offers a display of various traditional Cuban instruments, some of which date back to the early nineteenth century.
  • An educational exchange with staff and executives at Egrem Recording StudioLunch at local restaurant.
  • An informative dialogue with artists/craftsmen at their homes, studios or workshops.
  • In the afternoon, learn about Havana’s system of Fortresses dating to colonial times as you view the Castillo del la Punta, the El Morro, and San Carolos de la Cabana y la Fuerza.

DAY 04

Havana/Pinar del Rio

  • American Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Depart to Pinar del Rio, the western province of Cuba, where the best tobacco is harvested. You will be stopping at Las Terrazas, where you will have a guided tour of the eco and social community project, and the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve where six million trees were planted.
  • Experience rolling from torcedores (rollers) in a cigar factory.
  • Dinner at leisure


DAY 05

Pinar del Rio, Las Terrazas/ Varadero/Matanzas

  • American Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Depart to Varadero, Matanzas, a historical background of Varadero, led by a Cuban expert in the 20th Century and the unique history of the Mansion Xanadu, formerly known as DuPont.
  • Lunch at Hotel Velasco.
  • In the town of Matanza’s learn about the Neo Classical “teatro Sauto”, Al Capone’s house, Varadero Art Gallery and Josone Park.
  • Dinner at local restaurant.

DAY 06

Bay of Pigs / Zapata Peninsula (B/L)

  • American Breakfast at the hotel.
  • A discussion with scientists at a crocodile breeding farm on the Peninsula de Zapata. The government runs the breeding farm to study and protect the American and Cuban crocodiles, which is an endangered species. The swamp and forest are home to over 150 types of fauna, as well as over 350 species of birds, including the Bee Hummingbird.
  • Depart to the Museum of the Bay of Pigs for an educational exchange with a veteran of the Revolutionary War, and a first hand perspective of the 1961 invasion, along with other historical sites including Playa Giron and Central Australia.
  • Lunch at local restaurant.
  • An educational exchange with members of the Cultural groups CORIMACAO (Art Community Group of the Cienaga de Zapata led by Cuban actor Manuel Porto).
  • Dinner at leisure.


DAY 07

Cienfuegos / Trinidad

  • American Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Begin journey to Cienfuegos, whose historic centre is a UNESCO site with strong French influence, providing unique architecture. Visit the Palacio de Valle Restaurant, designed in 1912, with an eclectic style incorporating Moorish, Venetian Gothic and Beaux Arts elements.
  • Lunch at local restaurant.
  • An educational exchange with a local expert at Museo Provincial to discuss life under colonial rule. This museum is housed in the Old Casino Español built in 1869. By looking at the old Cienfuegos furniture and porcelain, see how the rich of Cienfuegos lived in the 19th Century.
  • Begin Journey to Trinidad.
  • Dinner in Trinidad.

DAY 08

Trinidad

  • American Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Trinidad City Tour: The historical role of Trinidad is quite limited up untill the early 19th Century, as here the industrialization of the sugar industry began. UNESCO has declared this center and the nearby Valley of the Sugar Mills Patrimony of Mankind.
  • You will visit a sugar mill where a local spokesperson will explain the importance and the impact sugar has had in the history and economy of Cuba.
  • Lunch at local restaurant
  • An educational exchange with an architectural historian at The Museo Municipal in Trinidad for a discussion about the use of architecturally significant buildings as museums.
  • A walking tour of Trinidad, where time has stood still in the cobblestone streets and pastel colored houses built in the Colonial times. The Plaza Mayor exemplifies the wealth of landowners when Trinidad was a major center for trade.
  • Dinner at local restaurant.


DAY 09

Trinidad / Holguin

  • American Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Depart to Holguin
  • Holguin City Tour, Including: La Periquera (National Monument) House of Calixto Garcia (National Monument) – General in three Cuban uprisings, part of the Cuban War for Independence: Ten Years’ War, the Little War and the War of 1895, itself sometimes called the Cuban War for Independence, which bled into the Span­ish-American War, ultimately resulting in national independence for Cuba.
  • Lunch at local restaurant
  • Familia Cuayo Fábrica de Organos, a studio that still produces handmade órganos pneumáticos (air-compression organs) with hand-cut music sheets, and restores musical instruments — perhaps the very last of it’s breed. Eighteen workers make only four organs per year.
  • Visit Mirador de Mayabe, at Mayabe Valley (located about 5 km from Holguin city center).
  • Dinner at local restaurant.

DAY 10

Trinidad – Havana

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Departure transfer will be provided from hotel to Holguin International Airport.
