  • Locally guided walking tour of historic Havana Vieja, Old Havana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site
  • Meetings with farmers at the Mercado 19 en Vedado and the Mercado de Cuatro Caminos, the largest agromercado in Cuba where urban farmers sell their organic produce from this 19th century landmark
  • Lunch at local restaurant
  • Visit the Centro de Estudios de Agricultura Sostenible (CEAS), to learn about sustainable agriculture and its implementation within Cuba
  • Dinner at local restaurant


DAY 03

Havana

  • American breakfast at the hotel
  • Visit UBPC Organopónico Vivero Alamar to learn about urban farming and organic agriculture in Cuba where participants will meet with local members of the cooperative (Possibility to assist at the coop depending on the activities the coop has planned for that day)
  • Lunch at a local restaurant
  • Meet with representatives of PIAL, Programme for Local Agrarian Innovation, to discuss their innovative initiatives for farming in Cuba since 2000
  • Dinner at local restaurant

DAY 04

Havana / Las Terrazas, Pinar del Rio

  • American breakfast at the hotel
  • Departure to Pinar del Rio, western of Cuban provinces and the place the best tobacco is harvested. Educational exchanges with local farmers about farming and life in rural Cuba today as you travel through the lush valley where tropical palm trees and lime stone formations (mogotes) provide a dramatic background for the verdant tobacco fields
  • A guided walking tour of the eco and social community project of Las Terrazas and an introduction to the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, where six million trees were planted
  • Visit the ruins of Buenavista coffee plantations and meet with local farmers
  • Lunch at local restaurant
  • Visit a tobacco cooperative to learn about the tobacco growing process
  • Arrive to the Hotel in Viñales
  • Dinner at the hotel with panoramic view of this UNESCO World Heritage Site

Pinar del Rio / Viñales

Viñales / Trinidad

  • Typical breakfast at the hotel
  • Visit Sugar Factory Museum Australia to learn about Cuban Sugar Factory
  • Lunch at local restaurant
  • Travel on to Trinidad, where you will discuss enroute the Cuban perspective on the history and production of sugar cane


DAY 07

Trinidad / Cienfuegos / Havana

  • Breakfast at the hotel
  • A guided walking tour of Trinidad, where time has stood still in cobblestone streets and pastel colored houses built in the colonial times. The Plaza Mayor exemplifies the wealth of landowners when Trinidad was a major center for trade. Visit the Palacio Brunet, a former mansion of a wealthy landowner and now a museum furnished to replicate the colonial period
  • Lunch at local restaurant
  • Travel through the Valle de los Ingenios, a UNESCO World Heritage Site containing more than 70 old ingenious or sugar mills, with a stop at Manaca Iznaga Estate and Tower
  • Farewell dinner at local restaurant

Santa Clara – Trinidad

  • Departure transfer by bus to Havana International Airport with guide
